Medieval Music

You are going to listen to two different songs. While listening, write some characteristics of each of the songs. You may refer to: a) instruments you hear; b) number of voices that appear in the song; c) the place you could listen to this music; d) the volume of the song; e) the speed of the beat; f) what you would use the song for; g) anything else that you may want to note.

Probably, some of you have noted that the first song sounds very old. In fact, it is very old!!! This kind of music is known as Gregorian Chant, a type of Medieval music. In this unit we are going to learn what music in the Middle Ages was like.
